Forget Your Head – Get Health And Beauty Products For Your Toes
Many women who love health and beauty products put their best face forward, forgetting about putting their best foot, or feet, forward.
Feet are generally covered up for most of the year. We stick them in shoes or socks and don’t think about taking care of them until the end of the day. That’s when we put up our feet, notice how dry and rough they are, but are too tired to care or to do something about it.
It’s worse if you’re overweight or past menopause. Maybe you’ve noticed that your feet are so cracked that they catch on your comforter. Please, pay attention to your feet! They work so hard for you!
You could spend a great deal of money on pedicures at your favourite spa. At $75 a pop, that’s not for every woman. With the right products purchased from a specialty store or at the health and beauty counter of your drug store, and a few minutes twice or three times a week, you can care for your best friends right at home.
Go to the store and buy yourself some nice products for your feet. Look for a foot cream with a mild abrasive such as pumice. This will soften and slough away that horrible rough skin. They should also contain an essential oil that will leave your feet tingly and fresh. Foot scrubs can leave you feeling invigorated, but if you’re the type of person who finds the abrasiveness uncomfortable, there’s something else you can try.
A pumice stone or foot-buffer or even a foot file will take care of that horrible, rough skin on your heels. Soak your feet in a tub or in a nice warm bucket of soapy water, perhaps while you’re watching TV. When the skin has softened up a bit, gently rub your feet with the pumice stone or file. You’ll have to do this regularly before you see honest to goodness results. Don’t rub too hard – overuse can cause damage.
Every time you rub your feet, you should apply heel balm. This product, which often contains 10% to 20% urea, will help your heels stay soft and youthful looking. And FYI, any product that contains urea should only be used on the heels. Lanolin is another wonderful thing for dry, cracked heels.
Look for foot spray which has a lovely, cooling effect for tired feet. If you feet are exceptionally sweaty, the fragrance and freshness of the spray won’t last very long.
While a foot spray is a quick pick-me-up, chronically hot, sweaty feet aren’t normal. You might want to discuss this with a medical practitioner. But do keep a can of foot spray in your purse. Peppermint is cool and refreshing.
If your feet are exceptionally smelly, using an antiperspirant foot deodorant may be just what you need. Find one that you like in the foot care aisle of your favorite drug store – you may not find it with the other foot products mentioned in this article.
You might also try wearing cotton socks, instead of synthetic socks and alternating your footwear from day to day. Reflexologists say that sometimes foot odor may be caused by a hormonal balance. A reflexologist will massage your big toe, which is linked to your pituitary gland.
Soak your feet in a tub or in a nice warm bucket of soapy water, perhaps while you’re watching TV. In laboratories, human skin cultures are developed and used for irritant testing. Reflexologists can sometimes activate the pituitary gland by massaging the big toe.
