Acne scars sometimes occur after the acne has gone away and leaves the blemishes on the skin. Many people that have acne scars want to get rid of them.

Acne scarring can range from very mild to very severe. Due to the wide range, there are different types of treatment for each case.

Prevention is the key to treating acne scars. When you have your acne, you have to be prudent in taking care of it. Do not pop the pimples as that would cause acne scars and also spread the germs which causes more acne.

Wash your face often and use antibacterial soap. You need to wash often to get rid of the oil buildup on your face. Using antibacterial soap kills the bacterium that causes the acne.

Get acne scar clearing cream. These creams do not require prescriptions and should be used for the mildest case of acne scarring. Apply the cream daily and overtime your acne scar should smooth away.

If your acne scarring is a little bit more than mild, you may want to try a chemical peel to get rid of the acne scars. Chemical peels work by using acid to peel off the top layer of your skin. You may experience irritation afterwards.

Next try using dermabrasion to get rid of acne scars. This procedure is more expensive than the last. The dermatologist will numb your skin and then use a rotating sanding device to peel away your skin and smooth it out.

Next you may want to try laser resurfacing. This procedure is not cheap so it may be your last resort. Like dermabrasion it removes the top layer skin but it does so with a laser. The dermatologist will numb your skin first before attempting this procedure.

Other than the OTC medications, all of these procedures to get rid of acne scars should be done at a dermatologists office. They usually require some recovery time for the skin to grow back after treatment.
