It doesn’t really matter who you are, because every one of you is likely to come across a few bumps, cuts and scrapes in your life. A bruise is also known as a contusion. When you bruise, it is a result of the soft tissues under your skin being injured. When the impact occurs, the blood cells pool up in the tissues adjacent to the injury, which makes that lovely shade of black and blue.

If you determine that a bruise is likely, you should not waste any time proceeding with the steps and guidelines for treatment listed below.
You will find that one of the most effective remedies for containing a bruise is through using a cold compress at the site of the bruise. Most often, this will be a bag with some ice cubes in it or a package of frozen vegetables. You have to keep in mind though, that direct contact of this icy remedy with your skin for an extended period of time is not recommended. You need something to wrap up your cold source first.
Once you have the compress together, you should hold it over the area where your bruise is forming for up to 30 minutes. This will help your body react better towards repairing the problem, and will prevent any swelling that might be trying to occur as a result of the injury. Likely, you will have to deal with some swelling initially, immediately after the injury.
If the forming bruise is located on your leg or foot, you might benefit greatly from keeping that particular leg elevated for up to 24 hours after the injury. This will do wonders towards preventing swelling as well, and will also limit the severity of the bruise that is forming.
Other than the above named remedies, there is little else you can do in terms of treatment for bruises. Taking some ibuprofen or acetaminophen might help with the pain aspect likely accompanying the accident.
