Skin Aging – The Facts

Who isn’t concerned about aging? One of the most talked about subjects in the world is aging. What makes this so? Because we are a society that takes great pride in having a nice and attractive appearance.

Aging affects us all a bit differently, but we all basically go through the same process. Aging is really a natural process. As natural as living and dying. As we age, our skin looses it’s firmness. Fine lines and wrinkles start to develop. Most prominently in the areas of our skin that are used the most.

Though aging is a natural process that affects us all, there are some things that can speed up the aging process. This can cause the signs of aging to appear prematurely.

These are just a few of the things that can cause your skin to age faster than it should.

Sunshine, while important, can be a bad thing for our skin if taken in too high of a dose. The effects of the sun on your skin can cause premature wrinkles and a leather like appearance. Too much exposure to the sun is the biggest contributor to facial skin wrinkling.

Besides darkening your skin, overexposure can remove your skin’s natural layer of protection. When this happens, harmful UV rays damage the skin’s texture and cause harm to your skin. If you stay out in the sun too long for too many years, you can even get skin cancer.

If you are out in the sun for too long without sunscreen, your skin can become saggy and leather like. As if this isn’t bad enough, skin cancer is even worse. We all want to avoid this. Don’t forget to wear a quality sunscreen if out in the sun for more than a few minutes.

If exposed to strong sunlight, you can wear a hat to protect your neck and face from overexposure. You can use SPF 20 if only outside for short periods. If you’ll be out longer than this, wear something stronger like SPF 60.

A fast way to ruin your skin is by smoking. Smoke is loaded with toxic substances and is not only bad for your health but will make your skin look old. Smoking makes your skin dry and ages it quickly. Try not to smoke if possible. Also smoking uses up valuable vitamin C which your skin needs.

Smoke is terrible for your skin. Even second hand smoke can lead to early aging of the skin. Smoke might even be as harmful as over exposure to the sun.

Drinking Alcohol is terrible for the skin. It dilates the blood vessels in your body and increases the blood flow to the skins surface. Not only is drinking too much alcohol bad for your health, it’s terrible for your skin. Stay away from it if possible.

Drinking can cause red cheeks and broken blood vessels after using for a time. This usually results in a haggard appearance.
