Do Some Of The Old Home Cures For Easy Bruising Really Work?
Dealing with frequent bruising can lead to feeling stress as well as feeling physically drained. Lots of us are plagued by easy bruising, but when we get a bruise from some light bump, our only thought is how to get rid of it immediately.
While there supposedly are treatments that literally cause your bruises to disappear overnight, there are numerous country myths that can not only leave you with the same old bruises but also set you up for more severe bruising in the future. Heat as a bruise treatment is a myth. Leave the heat off of your bruise. Heat is going to make the blood vessels swell, and that leads to increased blood flow. Heat will help your body circulate more blood to the area, and that is the last thing that you want to happen with a new bruise. Instead, why not put a cold pack on the bruise to encourage clotting?
Think about the fact that a bruise occurs when small blood vessels break underneath the skin. When more blood comes to the bruise, it will get darker and even more dramatic. Adding heat can make a bruise even bigger.
There is a story about how onions can help heal bruises that has seen somewhat wide circulation. The story probably originated with someone’s mom or grandmother who might have said that cold slices of onion can help reduce existing bruises, but a better use for the onion is to put it on your hamburger. If you want to smell like onions all day, go ahead and use the onion slices on your bruise. There could be some slight benefit gained from the cold of an onion slice, but apply a cold pack instead. Even though using an onion slice probably won’t worsen the bruise, it is highly unlikely that it will make it better. Instead of buying into this myth, look for a course of action that can actually help.
Another story that manages to hang around is that milk will help you heal a bruise. Milk is great for building strong bones, but it does nothing for your bruise at all. Milk should be used on your insides not your outsides, and though the lactic acid in milk can be good for your skin, it will not help your bruise. Milk, butter, and cottage cheese have all been suggested as bruise cures, but keep them in the kitchen instead.
Understand that Orajel and other similar over the counter products are part of a mythical bruising cure and are not going to provide any substantial help with your bruising. Even though pain and swelling reduction are part of their purpose, they are not designed as a bruise treatment. Even though they may supply some pain reduction, you should still seek a solutions designed for bruises specifically.
If you are trying to heal a bruise, everyone may have a story for the best way to cure them. Because our bodies are all different, we all bruise differently, so don’t necessarily expect someone else to have a cure that will work for you. Spending enough time, with proper research, will eventually yield the right cure for you.
Most people would tell you that they would rather reduce bruising easily rather than try to rely on some home grown cure after the bruise has occurred.
