Did you know that the skin is the largest organ of the body? But oftentimes, we take it for granted and never give it the caring it needs. This is especially true with the face. Most women start worrying about it only when problems such as age spots or wrinkles are present. A proper skin care regimen is all it takes to keep your face at its best. And it doesn’t have to be complicated.
Before going to bed at the end of the day, it’s important to get rid of dirt on your face. Use a mild facial cleanser that’s formulated to suit best the type of skin you have. Steer clear of bar soaps as they tend to dry out your skin tremendously. Too much cleansing is also bad, as it leads to tightness and dryness of the skin, as well as development of pimples and rashes.
There’s a simple and tried-and-tested way of washing the face. First, splash it with warm water to loosen dirt, as well as open up the pores and unclog them. Second, using your fingertips, apply your preferred cleanser, gently massaging it all over the face. It should be done for at least 30 seconds. Lastly, rinse with cool water to also tighten the pores and make them less visible.
No matter the skin type, a moisturizer is an integral part of your regimen. It keeps skin from being dry as it seals in moisture. How do you tell how much or how often you should put on a moisturizer? Each time your face feels taut and dry, it’s telling you it needs moisturization. But do invest in one with a light formulation, to prevent unnecessary clogging up of your pores.
It’s said that the number one cause of development of wrinkles and other signs of skin ageing is sun damage. That’s why it’s highly important to apply sunscreen during daytime. This is a must even if it’s cloudy outside or you’re not planning to stay outdoors for a long time. Invest in a good one, something with sun protection factor (SPF) of 15 or even greater.
There are some moisturizers that also offer sun protection. They save you from the hassle of applying two products one after the other. However, the ingredients of such are not meant to be applied all the time, as they may cause some irritation. The best approach is to buy two sets of moisturizers. One with sun protection for daytime use, and another one without sun protection for use during bedtime.
Exfoliation of the face should also be done once a week. This will allow you to remove dead skin cells which tend to make your face look dull and lifeless. There are facial scrubs which you can buy at beauty stores or drugstores. Go for a good quality one with fine grains in it. Cheap ones tend to have big and coarse grains which can scratch and irritate the skin. There are also over-the-counter chemical peels, such as retinoids. Carefully follow manufacturer’s directions when using them.
Soon enough, people will begin to notice the glow on your skin. A daily skin care regimen need not be time consuming. All it takes is cleansing, application of moisturizers and sunscreens, and occasional exfoliation. Your skin will thank you and give you a lasting, youthful beauty in return.
