However, it protects the area by absorbing moisture.

Another very important point is to never scratch. Scratching will just make things worse. If your home is usually dry, regardless of the season, invest in the humidifier which can improve your situation. Also, use compresses. You can take a soothing oatmeal bath which will not only moisturize the skin but will also relieve you of the itch.

However, if the itching is unbearable, either try some over-the-counter ointments, calamine motion or see your doctor. He or she may prescribe stronger anti-itch creams.
