How Does Eating Junk Food Cause Me To Be Subject To Easy Bruising?

We are all probably aware that eating potato chips may not be good for us, but does that make junk food a cause for my tendency to bruise easily? Finding a bruise that you don’t remember getting could be a sign of life style habits that aren’t healthful. Bruising easily has been linked to poor eating habits and vitamin deficiencies, and that’s just what junk food can provide.

Junk food is aptly named; not only are you taking in calories, you are taking in calories that are not doing anything for you. Think about all the foods that you are eating that provide no benefits for you, and you’ll see why your body can have problems healing itself.

We need to be aware of how a bruise is actually formed before we evaluate what affects junk food may have on our bruising. When you get older, your skin and capillary walls become more fragile and less elastic. Capillaries become more subject to breakage; and when this occurs, blood collects around the break below the skin. If you cut yourself, blood flows out of the break in the skin; but when a capillary breaks, the blood stays beneath the skin creating a bruise. Therefore, to heal a bruise, you need to affect the damaged capillary’s healing, and to prevent bruising you need to strengthen the capillaries so that they don’t break in the first place.

Your body can not renew its nutritional resources if you are constantly eating junk food, and this lack of resources can be the cause for your easy bruising. You will not get the benefits of vitamin C, vitamin K, or iron that you need if you eat junk food. You will get a load of simple sugars from eating junk food. Because simple sugars are rapidly absorbed by the body, they can give your body a short, temporary high, but after the brief high comes an energy crash. To avoid a sugar crash with its feelings of tiredness and irritability, there can be a constant desire to recreate the energy boost by eating more junk food.

Vegetables and whole grains are some of the foods that contain complex sugars, which are much better for you because they are absorbed by the body slower giving you a more sustained energy boost without the crash later. Complex sugars are a much better choice for a diet that is going to promote your good health.

Just because you feel full after eating junk food doesn’t mean that you’ve taken in anything that is good for you. Too much junk food might even serve as a trigger for diabetes, if there is a family history for the disease. You don’t need to be a sufferer of diabetes to bruise easily, because you’ve just learned that you can become prone to easy bruising through eating too much junk food. You should consider writing down everything that you eat for a few days or a week and then evaluate exactly what nutrients are missing from your existing diet, and what nutrients are as they should be.
