Regular Skin Exfoliation Is Necessary For Healthy Skin

The largest organ in the human body is actually on it – the skin. It has multiple functions, with its primary purpose being protection. It shield the internal body structure from the external environment and all the harmful bacteria that is in it. It also helps keep the internal system regulated by excreting toxins. As a result of these processes, it can be left looking dull and dry. To keep it health, regular skin exfoliation is recommended.

Applying moisturizer to really dry skin might be ineffective. The dryness is coming from dead skin cells that have built up and therefore blocking your pores. When you put on the lotion, your pores might be too clogged to absorb it, so it just sits on the outer surface of the skin.

The purpose of exfoliation is to remove those dead cells from the surface using a mild abrasive that will slough them off. The result is skin that is healthier-looking because of an increased ability to absorb moisture, a decrease in small bumps and acne, and a decrease in wrinkles and fine lines.

Exfoliating can easily be done in a number of ways. Use a loofah or a natural-fiber brush to assist in sloughing off the dead cells. There are a variety of scrubs on the market that can also get the job done. Scrubs are usually made from a mix of either fine particles of sand or sugar and either liquid soap, moisturizer, or oil.

Aside from manual methods, you can also use chemical exfoliants. These are usually in the form of a lotion or gel and come in two types. Alpha-Hydroxy Acids (AHAs) which are acids derived from fruits, and Beta-Hydroxy Acid, which is also known as salicylic acids. Both work to remove the outer layer of dead skin cells and they also promote the growth and regeneration of healthy cells underneath.

With chemical skin exfoliation it is important to know that AHAs and BHA have differing solubilities, with AHAs being water-soluble, and BHA being oil-soluble. So use AHAs if you’re dealing with dryness or skin damage. If your issues are more with blemishes and acne, use a BHA. But, whether it is manual or chemical, make sure to exfoliate for beautiful healthy skin.

Skin exfoliation is very important for your skin. There are many different skin exfoliators out there and it is important that you choose the right one for your skin condition.
