Preparing Your Skin For Winter

Christmas time is a time to celebrate, see relatives, attend parties, and spend a lot of time shopping for the right gift. Sadly, it’s also the period when we ignore our skin. This is bad because the cold climate can greatly affect our skin and cause dryness, cracking and bleeding. To look your best in this cold season and prevent winter dryness from setting in, here are some tips to consider:

Remember to bring a hydrating lip balm and hand moisturizer in your bag or purse. Use both as often as possible even if you don’t think the weather is cold. This will reduce skin cracking and bleeding and prevent greater damage to your skin. Baby oil is another option that you can use on your hands and other problem areas though this option can be messy as oil isn’t readily absorbed by the skin. Don’t use hand sanitizers with alcohol. Hand sanitizers rob the skin of moisture and can make things worse at winter. If you can’t wash your hands, go for an alcohol-free sanitizer instead.

The cool weather can likewise be rough on your hair and scalp so take good care of it during winter. The dry weather removes the scalp’s natural oils so fight back with regular deep conditioning treatments at a nearby hair salon. This makes your hair shiny and nourished even in harsh weather.

Say no to long hot baths at this time because hot water will leech oil from your skin and lead to dryness. A warm bath or shower makes are better alternatives. When bathing, don’t scrub your skin with a loofah or scrub a lot since this can create bruises, especially during winter. Don’t use exfoliating bath scrubs either. Moisturizing bath gels and scrubs are better to add moisture to your skin.

To heal the skin from inside, take lots of water in winter to keep hydrated. Keeping your skin hydrated increases skin elasticity and prevents premature aging. Drink fruit juices too since they will nourish the skin and give your body the vitamins and minerals that are needed by the skin. The weather may be cool but you can still look good and keep your skin damage free with these easy tips.
