It’s easy to get intimidated when you visit the skin care aisle. On one side, you have all of the body lotions and creams. On the other you have shelves and shelves of stuff for your face. How do you start, can you tell what product is for your body and which is for the face? Most of what you see is packaged prettily with catchy slogans and giant promises splashed across the side. How do you know what is real and what is hype? Helping you choose the right skin care products is the goal of this article.
Look at your cosmetic care cabinet before you shop. Which products did you like, which did you not like? Pay attention to the reasons you have for liking or not liking the products you’ve already tried. Did one make your face feel greasy, or clean? Knowing these things is important so that when you ask a clerk or your dermatologist for advice you can tell them what you did or didn’t like in a particular product.
How do you want your skin care product to work for you? Is Acne a consideration for you? Do you need an acne fighting solution? Are you looking for something to even out skin tones without makeup? These are all things to decide before you start shopping. Acne fighting ingredients aren’t important if this isn’t your problem area. If you do have acne issues, you can look for something a little stronger than the average face wash (or body wash).
Do you know your skin type? The best way to figure out your skin type is to visit your dermatologist. This doctor can give you the best advice on your skin type and products to use. If you have oily skin, for example, you will want to stay away from oil based cleansers and toners. Your dry skin will only suffer from products meant to fight acne which contain salicylic acid. Your dermatologist will help you and may even be able to recommend a product line or two.
Don’t let choosing a skin care product be an overwhelming hassle. Be patient and do your research before you go shopping and you will avoid problems. The key is to know the ingredients not just buy what’s in a pretty box.
